The Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy side travelled to Billericay in the NFYL League Cup round of 16 this week.The academy side started brightly with Toni arriving at the back post after a cross from Kianha to open the scoring after just 5 minutes.The Chelsea FC Blenheim goal sparked the Billericay side into life and the academy side struggled to keep the ball against a strong opposition. Billericay scored 3 times in the first half to take the sides in at the break at 3-1 to Billericay.With tactical changes at half time the Chelsea FC Blenheim side were brave and positive and took the game to Billericay. Chances for Chelsea FC Blenheim came and went and against the run of play Billericay scored again to make it 4-1. After this setback, the academy side still looked confident and continued to dominate the ball. In the ascendency it was player of the match Zoe who pulled a goal back, with an exquisite finish with her left foot from outside the box; 4-2 and game on.The strong Billericay team then shut up shop, soaking up the pressure and only threshing on the counterattack. With a powerful and purposeful counter attacking game Billericay scored 2 goals in the last 15 minutes to kill off the game. Coach Ted reflected on the game “So proud of the non-stop effort from the girls even after 5 and6. The real difference was the physicality and speed and strength of their girls.”
