Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy were left frustrated after a dramatic late defeat to Plymouth Argyle in a fiercely competitive encounter in the National Football Youth League Premier 2. Having drawn 0–0 in their previous away meeting earlier in the season, the home side knew they were facing a tough challenge. From the opening stages the game was played at a high intensity, with both teams battling hard in midfield. Millie and Miley consistently caused problems on the flanks, using their pace and direct running to get the better of their opposing defenders. Showing great composure on the edge of the penalty area, Hannah worked a clever through ball into the path of Millie. The winger kept her calm and finished beautifully past the goalkeeper to give Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy a deserved 1–0 lead going into the break. Although Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy knew they had been the stronger side in the first half, they were well aware that Plymouth Argyle would return with renewed energy after the interval. That prediction proved correct as Plymouth found their equaliser 15 minutes into the second half. Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy responded positively, showing good character and composure to continue building their play through tight areas and progressing the ball with purpose. With 20 minutes remaining, Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy regained the lead from a set piece. Beth delivered an excellent corner into the box which found Eliza, and she reacted sharply to volley home from close range and restore the advantage. After winning a second ball in midfield, they quickly released their left winger into space. Her cross to the back post found the striker arriving late, who poked the ball past Beth to make it 2–2. The final moments of the game were played at a frantic pace, and deep into stoppage time Plymouth found a decisive moment. With momentum now firmly in their favour, they once again won possession in midfield. A Plymouth midfielder drove forward before unleashing a powerful strike from around 30 yards. Beth B managed to tip the effort onto the crossbar, but the rebound dropped into the goal to give the visitors a dramatic late winner. It was a cruel ending for Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy, who had shown strong control for long periods of the game. Despite the disappointment, there were plenty of positives in the performance and lessons to take as the team looks ahead to their remaining fixtures.
