Chelsea FC Development 6 v 2 Farnborough
PoM: Matilda S
Chelsea FC Blenheim Development produced a dominant display at home, running out 6–2
winners against Farnborough Sixth Form in an entertaining ESFA Super League encounter.
The hosts began brightly, controlling possession and dictating the tempo, though early on they struggled to carve out clear chances. Their persistence, however, was soon rewarded.
After 20 minutes, Grace C opened the scoring following a clever through ball from Matilda S. Pressing the goalkeeper aggressively, Grace C blocked the clearance and reacted quickest to tap home from close range. Just five minutes later, Chelsea FC Blenheim Development doubled their lead. Picking up the ball just beyond halfway, Grace C embarked on a mazy run, weaving through the Farnborough defence before calmly slotting past the onrushing keeper to make it 2–0.
Against the run of play, Farnborough pulled one back on the half-hour mark, a well-timed pass down the right channel setting up their forward to finish clinically beyond Beth B in goal.
Chelsea FC Blenheim Development responded immediately. In the 39th minute, Scarlett M collected a loose clearance, exchanged a neat one-two with Grace C, then danced past
two defenders before placing her shot neatly into the bottom corner. Barely a minute later, Scarlett struck again this time from the edge of the box sending a powerful left-footed effort over the goalkeeper and into the roof of the net to give Chelsea FC Blenheim Development a 4–1 lead at the break.
Farnborough came out strong in the second half, and within five minutes they had reduced the deficit. A quick counter-attack from halfway saw their striker surge through the Chelsea back line before finishing confidently past Beth B. Chelsea, however, soon reasserted control. On 65 minutes, Hanna H capitalised on a misplaced throw, using her strength to beat her marker before threading a perfectly timed pass into Amy W, who showed superb composure to roll her finish into the far corner. The final word came with 15 minutes remaining, as Gracie V showed exceptional close control to evade three challenges after latching onto a goal kick. Her clever cutback found Hanna H, whose strike crashed off the bar before Margo B reacted quickest to slot home the rebound — sealing a convincing 6–2 victory for Chelsea.
It was a performance full of confidence and attacking intent, with Chelsea’s quality in possession and sharpness in front of goal proving the difference on the day.
Coaches Voice - Ted Westal
“Excellent overall display from the team. They showed great quality in possession, to play through Farnborough's press and also a ruthlessness in front of goal to score a wide range of goals.”
